DISTILLERIA ROMANO LEVI
Via XX Settembre 91, Neive (CN)
T. +39 0173 677139
In 1925 Serafino Levi, father of Lidia and Romano, recovering a tradition belonging to the family since the 17th century, founded his own distillery in Neive. The premature death of his mother in 1945 pushed the seventeen-year-old Romano, already fatherless, to interrupt his studies to dedicate himself with his sister to running the distillery. He thus learned the use of the direct fire still, a traditional distillation method, but very difficult to execute: today the distillation takes place through the use of the copper discontinuous still, the only one in the world still active with direct fire. The fame of the distillery is linked to the figure of Romano Levi, who passed away in 2008, and to his hand-painted labels enriched with poetic phrases or naive drawings, better known as “Arte Selvatica.
