The Socré winery, which means clog maker in Piedmontese, was founded in 1869, when a great-grandfather of the current owners purchased a plot of land in Barbaresco. For a long time, most of the grapes were sold to local farmers, reserving only a small percentage for their own winemaking for family consumption. In 1958, Benedetto Piacentino, father and grandfather of the current owners, renewed the vineyard, increasing the number of Nebbiolo vines. Since 1990, his son Marco, with his sons Giulio and Lorenzo, has increased the amount of grapes used for winemaking and expanded the company with new vineyards located in the Langhe, in Alba, and in the Asti area, in Cisterna d’Asti. The company currently has about three hectares of Nebbiolo vineyards, all located in the upper part of the Roncaglie cru.
